PRIVATE Dyer's Workshop for Sally/Cindy

A new approach to dyeing classes by letting YOU create your own agenda for the weekend. You will choose your class length and what you will study during the class.  Some possibilities include dyeing silks; rainbow dyeing yarns and rovings; painted yarns; dyeing cellulose fibers (cotton, bamboo); dyeing socks, shoelaces, scarves, shawls, quilt squares …the sky is the limit!  You will learn from what others are doing and they will learn from you.  No pre-requisite; beginners welcome. Class cost will be based on the length of workshop you choose.  Fees include instruction, dyes and use of equipment.  Class fees are as follows:  One-day – $70; two-days - $125; full weekend (3 hours on Friday afternoon or evening through Sunday) - $160.  Fees do NOT include yarns, fibers & fabrics for dyeing. You may bring your own or purchase what you need from the Fiber Garden.  Be sure and indicate the class length you are enrolling for on the registration form. (Note that if you wish to dye plant-based fibers, you MUST select the two-day workshop option!)  A non-refundable $30 deposit will be due at the time of registration to confirm your space. Preparing & Spinning Color for Knitting @ the Madison Knitter's Guild Knit-In

f you love color and want to bring more color into your yarns and knitting, knowing how to create ombre, gradient, and marled yarns will broaden your spinner’s toolbox! Learn techniques on blending boards, blending hackles, and the drum carder for preparing fibers that will give you color control in your spinning and result in yarns with clear, lively color, perfect for knitting. Registration is through the event website.

Rigid Heddle Weaving

Interested in weaving but don’t want to make the big investment in a floor loom? Rigid heddle looms are affordable and versatile! You may select a one-day or two-day workshop. The first day of the workshop we will learn to warp the loom using the direct warping method and weave a simple, yet beautiful, scarf to get you familiar with the loom. The second day you will warp and weave a project incorporating pick-up or lace techniques to expand the versatility of the loom. No previous weaving experience required. If you have never woven on a rigid heddle loom before, you must register for either the first day or both days. Those who have previously woven on a RH loom may register for the second day only if they wish. Looms will be provided or students may bring their own to class, if they are completely assembled and in perfect operating condition. Looms will also be available for purchase for those that want to continue weaving. Materials cost of approximately $20-40. Workshop fee is $60 for the one-day class and $110 for the two-day class plus materials.  A $30 non-refundable deposit will be due at the time of registration to confirm your space.  The remainder of your fee will be paid at the conclusion of your workshop.

2018 Spring Spinners Retreat

Join the Fiber Garden and spinning friends for a weekend of spinning at Durward\'s Glen in the beautiful Baraboo Hills National Natural Landmark! The 40 acre property is located 30 miles north of Madison near Devil\'s Lake State Park. This retreat is an opportunity to gather as a spinning community, working at your own skill level on projects of your choice. Deb will be there to coach, guide, and provide encouragement. There is no agenda for this weekend...just come and enjoy doing whatever you want, whenever you want! You may choose to work on spinning yarn for a specific project, experimenting with new fibers, exploring novelty yarns, or just pulling fibers out of your stash. Bring your own fibers, or purchase them at the retreat from Deb’s “fiber shop” that will be on-site. Bring your own wheel or rent one from the Fiber Garden for a small fee. The only pre-requisite for the retreat is that you have some beginning spinning experience. You do not need to be an experienced spinner...\"early career\" spinners are welcome and encouraged! A $100 deposit is required to reserve your space. The balance of the fee will be due around March 20.  Retreat fees include lodging, all meals, use of Durward\'s Glen facilities and trails, and a special gift! All participants are encouraged to stay overnight to enjoy the full retreat experience (it\'s also the best value!), but commuters are welcome and their fee will include brunch and dinner each day plus a gift. You will have a choice of arrival days and the number of nights you wish to stay. Of course, to fully enjoy the retreat you are encouraged to participate in the full four nights! Cancellations received prior to March 1 will receive a refund of any fees paid, less a $50 administrative fee. Beginning Spinning

Learn to turn wool into your own unique yarns!  Workshop will explore handcarding, drumcarding, spinning single and multi-ply yarns.  We will also talk about washing fleece; create art batts; and spin from several fiber preparations. No previous spinning experience required.  Length: Full weekend (Friday 3 hours, afternoon or evening, depending on student travel schedules; Saturday 9:30am-5pm; Sunday 9:30am-1:30pm) Workshop fee is $175 for the weekend and includes all materials.  A $40 non-refundable deposit will be due at the time of registration to confirm your space. Handspinning...Beginning and Beyond! @ The Clearing

Spend a peaceful week learning the art of hand spinning or expanding your skills! Beginners who have never spun before will learn to turn wool and other fibers into your own yarns for knitting, weaving and more. You will learn hand and drum carding, spinning single and multi-ply yarns, and be introduced to elements of yarn design so you can understand how to design and spin your own unique yarns. For those with previous spinning experience, this will be a week of retreat and total immersion into your spinning. You will set your own learning goals and agenda and Deb will work with you to help you accomplish your goals. In addition, there will be focused workshop sessions throughout the week to expand your spinning skills. Spinning wheels and all related equipment will be available for the beginning students. You will have the opportunity to try out many different spinning wheels throughout the week which will help you learn what kind of a wheel is best suited for you. Students may bring their own spinning wheels if they are completely assembled and in perfect operating condition. Please, no antique wheels. You must register directly with The Clearing.
