The possibilities for designing your own unique yarns are endless! Whether you like your art yarns funky and playful or soft and elegant, we’ll learn the skills for making all of them.  Learn to spin lofty and bulky, thick and thin, integrating objects, from locks, wrapping a core, boucle’, novelty ply techniques and much more! By the end of the week you’ll be integrating all that you have learned and practiced into your personally designed art yarns.

Spinners Alaska Cruise

For complete details visit the cruise web page. Join Deb and others who love to spin, along with their friends and family on this amazing cruise! Enjoy spinning on-board the ship, visiting three beautiful ports-of-call, and spectacular scenic cruising viewing the magnificent glaciers and wildlife.

Highlights of the trip include:

  • Private group receptions
  • An evening dining together in one of the ship’s specialty restaurants
  • Three on-board spinning workshops during three days at sea. Theme for this cruise will be “Hand Spinner’s Sampler”. As we explore the great Northwest, we will also explore a wide variety of spinning fibers ranging from animals, to plants, to synthetics. Maybe even a bit of Alaskan qiviut!
  • Nightly spin-ins…each in a different ship venue
  • Three days in port to explore on your own, take a cruise line sponsored shore excursion, or participate in private excursions just for our group.

Beginning Spinning & Rainbow Dyeing @ Sievers School of Fiber Arts

Spend a week of fun learning the art of handspinning and dyeing, as you turn wool and other fibers into your own unique yarns!  You will learn about fleece selection, washing, handcarding, drumcarding, spinning single and multi-ply yarns, and simple dyeing techniques to transform the fibers into a wonderful rainbow of color.

Multiple weaving classes will be offered concurrently. The following weaving workshops will be offered this weekend.  You will be asked to select which workshop you\'d like to register for on the registration page. Please view the descriptions on the \"Weaving Workshops\" page and note that we do not teach rigid heddle during this workshop!

Beginning Spinning

Learn to turn wool into your own unique yarns!  Workshop will explore handcarding, drumcarding, spinning single and multi-ply yarns.  We will also talk about washing fleece, create art batts, and demonstrate some basic dye techniques. No previous spinning experience required.  Length: Full weekend (Friday 3 hours, afternoon or evening, depending on student travel schedules; Saturday 9:30am-5pm; Sunday 9:30am-1:30pm) Workshop fee is $175 for the weekend and includes all materials.  A $40 non-refundable deposit will be due at the time of registration to confirm your space. The remainder of the fee will be paid at the end of your workshop.

Join the Fiber Garden and spinning friends for a weekend of spinning at Durward\'s Glen in the beautiful Baraboo Hills National Natural Landmark! The 40 acre property is located 30 miles north of Madison near Devil\'s Lake State Park. This retreat is an opportunity to gather as a spinning community, working at your own skill level on projects of your choice. Deb will be there to coach, guide, and provide encouragement. There is no agenda for this weekend...just come and enjoy doing whatever you want, whenever you want! You may choose to work on spinning yarn for a specific project, experimenting with new fibers, exploring novelty yarns, or just pulling fibers out of your stash. Bring your own fibers, or purchase them at the retreat from Deb’s “fiber shop” that will be on-site. Bring your own wheel or rent one from the Fiber Garden for a small fee. The only pre-requisite for the retreat is that you have some beginning spinning experience. You do not need to be an experienced spinner...\"early career\" spinners are welcome and encouraged! A $100 deposit is required to reserve your space. The balance of the fee will be due on October 1.  Retreat fees include lodging, all meals, use of Durward\'s Glen facilities and trails, and a special gift! All participants are encouraged to stay overnight to enjoy the full retreat experience (it\'s also the best value!), but commuters are welcome and their fee will include brunch and dinner each day plus a gift. You will have a choice of arrival days and the number of nights you wish to stay. Of course, to fully enjoy the retreat you are encouraged to participate in the full four nights! Cancellations received prior to September 1 will receive a refund of any fees paid, less a $50 administrative fee.
